The Frazier Racing quarter midget returned to the Grand Rapids DeltaPlex again on March 27th with a freshly rebuilt motor. Nate drew a second place starting position for his heat race, which had us a little worried because the preferred line on the track is in the bottom row. Nate did not get a good start on the green flag and fell back to third quickly still caught in the outside grove. When Nate made an attempt to get down into the inside grove, he had contact with another car and spun out, sending him to the back of the field for the restart. After taking the green, Nate was able to begin his charge of getting back to the front in the bottom grove. After moving into third place, the leaders mixed it up and spun, leaving Nate nowhere to go. Nate hit the second place car from behind and went right underneath it, leaving tire rubber on Nate’s top roll bars. (The picture on our web site shows the black marks) Nate’s car was undamaged in the incident and he lined up second on the restart. He made a look to the inside of the leader with one to go, but opted for second rather than spinning the leader to ensure a second place start for the feature race.
When the feature started Nate got a good start and was in first place when entering the first corner. The only problem was that his good start allowed the fourth place starter, Noah Gallandt, to follow him into second position. Gallandt had won every feature race at the DeltaPlex this year. After taking the early lead Nate ran the low line and Noah dogged him for the lead. About half way through the race, Noah tried an inside move and spun Nate in turn two. Because it was deemed that Noah spun Nate, Nate got his spot back on the restart and led the remaining laps for the win. It was Nate’s first feature win since graduating from the Novice division which he dominated. The newly freshened motor played a big role in the win and it has us excited about summer racing in Lansing this year with the Capitol Quarter Midget Association.
In addition to racing with Nate, work is very close to being complete with our Modifieds. Our first race will be at Berlin Raceway on April 24th, a race we will use as a test session for the first USA Modified show of the year at Berlin on May 22nd. In the next few weeks, look for pictures of our cars on our web site home page.
See you at the races,
Dan Frazier #96
